We produce sounds due to the vibrations produced in the vocal cords that are situated within the larynx. When we speak, the air is pumped into the larynx, which causes the vocal cords to vibrate, producing sounds. Now,the pitch or shrillness of a sound depends on the frequency of the vocal cords.
