Why is the volume a cone 1/3 of a cylinder

The volume of a cone would have been directly proportional to pi since circle's are involved and radius raised to square power as well as the height of the cone. so, in any case it would come out as a factor of the volume of the cylinder and it did come out 1 /3 of the volume of cylinder.
