Why is the weight of an object on the moon 1/6 its weight on the earth

  • The mass and radius of MOON are less than that of the EARTH due to which the moon exerts a lesser gravitational force on objects ( which is 1/6th of that exerted by the Earth ).
  • Since the gravitational force of the moon is 1/6th that of the Earth , therefore , the weight of an object on the moon is 1/6th of its weight on the Earth.
