Why is the windward side of a mountain gets more rainfall than leeward side?

Windward side is subject to the prevailing winds containing enough moisture.When due to the convective currents warm air rises up at a certain height it is cooled down below a certain point and hence,causes precipitation,while as on leeward side air descends down which is dry and some times hot, lacking moisture and hence leeward side is mostly dry.
