[ Sepoy Mutiny ]
Sepoy Mutiny also called as the Great Uprising of 1857 occured in the year 1857 which led to many drastic changes and is considered to be the first mutiny or revolt against British .
The important causes of Great Uprising of 1857 are :
- Resentment among peasants and artisans as they were exploited by the Agrarian policies of British which ultimately benefited zamindars and money lenders . They tortured them a lot . Many industries declined because British just wanted trade but no development among Indians .
- Sepoy discontent due to the policies such as van on religious marks , no betterment in work conditions , being treated as pigs , lower wages , no bhatta , biting of cartridge covered with pig and cow fat .
- Rulers were subordinated in thier rule as there were annexation policies like Doctrine of Lapse and Subsidiary Alliance which led to rulers feel like losing honour .
- Christians were lisenced to force convert religions . English education was supported and many more reasons .
But due to disunity they couldn't succeed to throw out British .
