Why is there a greater variation of salinity in the aptly or wholly enclosed seas

In wholly or partly enclosed seas such as Mediterranean sea ,read sea,the Caspian sea and the Persian gulf there is a greater variation of salinity because the water do not mix freely with ocean water and thus they are not penetrated by the ocean currents.
