Why is there a need for power sharing ?

Power sharing is the act of sharing of power among those leaders who are in power and those who elect them or are governed by the leaders.

Power sharing is important because:

Prudential Reasons:

• Power sharing reduces the chance of conflicts among social groups.

• Social conflicts leads to political instability, thus power sharing ensures political stability.

• Though forcing the will of majority over the minority may seem to be a good option, but in a long run it undermines the unity of the country.

Moral reason:

• Power sharing is the spirit of democracy.

• In a democratic government people have right to be consulted about how they are to be governed.

• When many people are allowed to participate in decision making, it ensures that the decision is more acceptable to most of the people.

• Power sharing helps to form a responsive and accountable government.
