why is there a need to segregate two types of waste

They are just “waste” for a particular purpose. They still have a great potential left in them. So in order to use this potential , first step is to segregate or to separate different type of waste from a hype of garbage. You need to separate the biodegradable and non biodegradable waste because if you don't.
