The reasons for moving of sugar mills towards South and West India are as follows:
Tropical climate is ideal for the growth of sugarcane. South and West India has longer crushing season due to cooler climate.
Sugar contents (sucrose) in the sugarcane of south is more than that in the North.
Labour is cheap in this part of the country.

In recent years there is a tendency among the sugar mills to shift and concentrate in the southern and western states especially in Maharashtra because of the following reasons:The sugarcane produced here has a higher sucrose content thus yields greater quantity of sugar.
