why is there are many big cities located along the banks of the river ganga?

Because river gang a is a perennial river,so it provides water to these cities for the whole year.

The reason behind the many cities being situated along the banks of the Ganga river, is that Ganga served as a means of livelihood to many people and with a river beside, the development of the cities become a lot more easy. The bank of Ganga river is very fertile which is an amazing criteria for the irrigation and farming. It becomes easy to irrigate the crops and the fertile soil provides a strong base for the farming of various crops.  Besides that the water shortage will never be a problem for the cities located beside Ganga.
