Women make up to almost half the population in any society. Therefore, it is important to have their active participation in any kind of activity that is held in a society.

This compulsory representation of women in different tiers of politics, industries, business, sports, etc has called for the provision of a women reservation system, by allocating a certain percentage of seats for the women.

The local bodies include the Zilla Panchayat, Gram Panchayat, and the Taluk Panchayat. They act closely with the people and so they are called as Local bodies.

So, there is a reservation quota for women to allow them to work with these local bodies and participate in the socio-economic development of the villages. This ensures the participation of women in the governance activities, administration activities, and developmental activities.

Also, many NGO's and self-help groups also promote the idea of women empowerment.

The women representation in local bodies is compulsory because this provides them, the opportunity to stand in Panchayat election.

This helps in raising issues especially associated with women like health, women education and women empowerment etc. Reservation in local government for women give them an opportunity to take part in country's development.

Also, women problems can be handled in a better way by giving them representations in local bodies.

Hope this will help you.
