FRICTION DEPENDS UPON THE NO OF IRREGULARITIES OF SURFACES.  

SMOOTH SURFACES HAVE LESS AND ROUGH SURFACE HAVE MORE NO OF IRREGULARITIES.

SO THE MAGNITUDE OF FRICTION IS HIGHER ON ROUGH SURFACES
