Ethanol does not react with dilute sodium hydroxide. R : Ethoxide ion is stronger base than hydroxide ion. ... NaOH when reacts with water forms ethoxide ion but due to its basicity it abstract hydrogen reforming alcohol. hence alcohols does not reacts with the base.
