Why is there shortage of water even though almost three-fourths of the earth is covered with water?

There is a water shortage even earth is covered with 3/4 water because most of the water is stored in glaciers, oceans and many much water is wasted.

most of the water of the earth is salty water and only few pecent of water is pure.. even that water is polluted by domestical use, industrial waste.. etc,,,,,, and so this water is not fit for drinking... hence the storage of water is necessary
