(i) Rajasthan is an arid area which receive less than 75 cms of annual rainfall. This rainfall does not support dense forests. (ii)The loss of moisture is also high due to transpiration as the region has high temperature.

Mainly because of the lack of water and nutrients plants develop thorns to discourage animals from eating them.
This is a common practice in desert plants as the harsh conditions from which provided inadequate resources for fast regeneration.
