Historians have different views on why Tipu Sultan was known as ‘The Tiger of Mysore’. While some says that he was called so because he had killed a tiger during his life time. However, several historians hold the view that most of Tipu’s characteristics resembled those of tiger with the hero demonstrating courage, confidence and braveness to send waves of tremor in the hearts of the opponents. He bitterly and effectively opposed British rule in southern India, posing a grave threat to the East India Company.
