1) Income is one of the most important attributes to compare development in a country.
2) But Total income won't be a useful measure as each country has different population.

The total income of countries is not used to make an economic comparison between them because the population of each country varies and it does not give an idea what an average citizen is earning as the occupation is also different. Some countries even sponsor the expenses of health & education which are not an income.
