hydrogen being a cation i.e positive ion gets attracted to negitive rod i.e cathod whereas oxygen being an anion gets attracted towards negitive rod i.e anode

Cathode has negative charge and Hydrogen is cation so it has positive charge and unlike charges always attract each other.
