Variation is beneficial to species but not necessarily to individual because when variation comes, it comes by some organisms, but those organisms get died as they are unable to resist the changes. But the variation which comes due to them help the other to survive, so thereby helping in protection of species from being extinct. For example, if the temperature of water increases suddenly, then most of the bacteria living in that water would die. Only few variants that are resistant to heat would be able to survive. However, if these variants were not there, then the entire species of bacteria would have been destroyed. Thus, these variants help in the survival of the species. However, all variations are not necessarily beneficial for the individual organisms.

♤ A species include large no. Of individuals of same kind. All the organisms of a species have similar body design and well adapted to the place.

♤ If there is a variation arise from the individual it might not be beneficial to it, even this variation may lead to the death of the individual.

♤ but the variation may be beneficial if the species faces a drastically altered condition.

♤ In this condition the population may wiped out completely but of some variation are there few individual can survive and thus variation is beneficial for the species.
