Although Venus is not the planetclosest to the sun, its dense atmosphere traps heat in a runaway version of the greenhouse effect that warms Earth. As a result, temperatures on Venus reach 870 degrees Fahrenheit (465 degrees Celsius), more than hot enough to melt lead.

Any planet which has a rocky surface like that of Earth and an atmosphere is called a terrestrial planet. Their atmosphere can be thick or thin. We have 4 terrestrial planets in our solar system. Venus has a rocky surface and a atmosphere made of CO₂. So, it is called a terrestrial planet !
