The resistance of ammeter is very low. If the ammeter is connected in parallel, the resultant resistance increases and the ammeter is likely to burn out

Voltmeter is connected because it has very high resistance. More over the potential difference is constant when in parallel. Hence voltmeter is connected in parallel

➡Voltmeter is connected in parallel and this is necessary because objects in parallel experience the same potential difference. n ammeter measures the electric current in a circuit.

➡ammeter connected in series because the purpose of the ammeter is to measure the current through the circuit. Since the ammeter is a low impedance device, connecting it in parallel with the circuit would cause a short circuit, damaging the ammeter and/or the circuit. If it's connected in parallel then it will burn out.

Hope it helps you:)

anupamavs1999: what is meant by low impedance????
FelixDan: the effective resistance of an electric circuit or component to alternating current, arising from the combined effects of ohmic resistance and reactance.
