Conservation of utmost importance in India because of-------------------------

• increasing demand of water due to growth of population.
• uneven distribution of water in the country and
• widespread water pollution.

Conservation of water should therefore be done by some effective methods like

a) watershed development and

b) rainwater harvesting

Watershed development:

Watershed is an area of internal drainage above a common point of outlet .It refers to the scientific use and utilization of water resources to stop soil erosion increase soil fertility ,controls floods, prevent siltation of river beds and maintain proper land use patterns.

Rainwater harvesting:

Rainwater harvesting is the technique of recharging ground water by capturing and storing rainwater, Rainwater can be stored on rooftop, in abandoned dug well, dams, small riverlets etc.
