Explanation:

In a compound, two elements are chemically bonded with other, and it is difficult to seperate them by simple physical methods. Compound have a specific formula, as water has formula (H2O).

However, when two elements or two compounds just simply mixed together and do not form chemical bonds, the substance formed is called a mixture. So air does not has any chemical formula, it is just a mixture of gases like N2, O2, H2 and Ar.
