At room temperature, the particles of water are loosely packed. They show a low force of attraction between them at room temperature. Also, their intermolecular space is slightly more at room temperature.
Due to these reasons, they exist as liquid at room temperature.
- Particles of solids have greatest intermolecular force of attraction but least intermolecular spaces between them.
- Particles of liquids show moderate intermolecular force and moderate intermolecular space between them.
- Particles of gases show least intermolecular force, but greatest intermolecular space.
