Why is wood an opaque material?

Answer:

Wood is a fibrous material with proteins and tissue. In fact if you notice there are rings formed in the core as it ages. Yes, may be when the plant was a bud it could have been transparent. But with physiology of plants or tree where core is generally dead and the bark is formed, essentially makes it opaque.
