Why is zero not the multiplicative identity for rational number ?

1 is called the multiplicative identity for rational numbers because when we multiply any number with 1 the product is the same number.

0 is not considered as the multiplicative identity for rational numbers because if a number is multiplied by 0 the product is 0 itself.
