[My personal opinion] Netaji the word itself means "Respected Leader".

Unlike Gandhiji, he wanted to drive the British out with armed revolution.

Although it looked like a real motivation for the youth, the intellectuals thought this to be in direct opposition to Gandhiji and his ideology of non-violence.

Also the Congress praised Bose's patriotism but distanced itself from his tactics and ideology, especially his collaboration with Fascism (read Hitler and allies).

His disappearance also played a part. But I would love to say and believe, we will always remember this Great soul and Leader by his ideologies and virtue.
