Answer:

Read the Explanation:)

Explanation:

This is because the Greenwich Meridian passes through Greenwich which is a village located in London. The IST (Indian Standard Time) is a longitude that passes through a place quite close to Chennai and the Standard time of this meridian is taken as the standard time for the entire country. Now, the IST is 5hrs and 30mins ahead of Greenwich Meridian (Prime Meridian). India comes on the east of the Greenwich Meridian (aka the Prime Meridian) we will add time. Since the Prime Meridian is taken as the basis for time calculation, if the time is 12:00 noon over there then adding 5hrs and 30mins we get 5:30om in India.

Hopefully this cleared ur doubt:)

  • India and the United Kingdom lie on different longitudes. Each degree of longitudes corresponds to a difference of four minutes. This is because the earth rotates 360° in 24 hours, 1° in 4 minutes. The standard meridian of India is 82° 30′ E, and that of London is 0°. This means a difference of 4 minutes x 82.5 = 330 minutes = 5.5 hours. So when it is 12 noon in London, it is 5.30 p.m. in India .
