The simple answer is sand has lot of quartz. Quartz is silicon dioxide.
Quartz and glass have chemical similarities. Glass is 75% or more silicon dioxide.
Walking on shards of glass would be difficult too. So walking on a sandy beach can be similarly difficult, depending on the state of physical and chemical weathering of the sands. Also, quartz is not easily weathered.

It is becoz.. the sand is soft and it moves and it doesn't remain stationery so we need to exert more pressure
