superconductivity. The vast majority of the known superconductors have transition temperatures that lie between 1 K and 10 K. Of the chemical elements, tungsten has the lowest transition temperature, 0.015 K, and niobium the highest, 9.2 K.

Superconductivity is a phenomenon of exactly zero electrical resistance and expulsion of magnetic flux fields occurring in certain materials, called superconductors, when cooled below a characteristic critical temperature. The electrical resistance of a metallic conductor decreases gradually as temperature is lowered.
