According to the the formula P=F\A,there is an inverse relation between pressure and area. ... By applying this theory the area of the sharp nail is less so it will exert more pressure in the wood and it will easily get immersed into the wood. Wile the blunt nail has more area thus it will exert less pressure

they have small area of the pointed end help in creating more pressure and it blunt end have large area so thrust is decreased and more pressure required .
