Why it is important for the leave to be attached to the tree during the experiment ?​

A leaf must be attached to the parent plant at all times to show transpiration, because as soon as a leaf is detached from the plant it will be cut off from hormones and minerals. The result of this is that senescence (and death) sets in straight away. However, this is not rapid in terms of the length of time you need for your experiment. A lettuce starts to die as soon as it is picked, but I find that a lettuce remains green for about a week after I have bought it!

But it cannot show transpiration, as no water source will be available after some time and it will simply wither and die.
