Why it is important that many identical plasma cells are produced?

When the immune system identifies a new antigen, a plasma cell makes a new antibody. Once a plasma cell responds to an antigen, it will only make antibodies for that antigen. In multiple myeloma, B cells don't work properly and make many abnormal plasma cells (called myeloma cells).
