Why it is important to create public awareness to reduce disaster?how is our government trying to do it?

When a disaster occurs due to natural calamities, there will be a lot of damage to property, land, agricultural lands, roads etc. Also lives of many people in the affected area gets badly hit.  They cannot live normally as the disaster destroys all communications and transport.  In addition many animals also suffer.

So the normal public life is affected.  It is important to prevent loss of human and animal lives.  Also it is important to inform people ahead of the disaster so that they can plan to move to safer places.

It is important to warn people so that they do not venture into affected areas.  

Government has set up a national disaster management department and offices at critical locations. The meteorological department takes care of prediction of disasters.  Various district level and mandal level authorities are alerted. The government officials make a coordinated plan to shift the people to safer locations.

Government arranges for food packets , water and sanitation facilities during a few days of disaster hit.  Minister level supervision takes place and reviews are held closely monitoring the progress.
