Transgenic plants are plants created by introducing genes from other species with the help of genetic engineering. Such plants are usually developed to produce certain desirable characteristics, like disease resistance, pest and herbicide resistance, and resistance to certain environmental conditions

Transgenic animals are more difficult to produce than transgenic plants because of several reasons:

i) Animal systems are larger and difficult to handle.

ii) Animal systems are more complex, affected by several more genetic and environmental parameters than plants and hence difficult to manipulate.

iii) Animals have a bigger generation time than plants. Hence, they take time to be modified.

iv) Animals are also limited by the number of progeny unlike plants that have shorter reproduction period and can produce more offsprings.

v) Economically, plants are much easier to be maintained than animals.
