there are many angles you could go in answering this question. There's no right or wrong answer but here are a few reasons as it relates to national security and human well being: 1) if we do not conserved our environmental resources we become vulnerable and at the mercy of other countries who have conserved theirs. We'll want what they have which means instead of the US calling the shots (like it often does in other countries) Roles will switch. 2) climate change is real and the impacts we are feeling now; increased temps, more rain events, longer hot days, warming waters are hugely due to lack of conserving our forests, wetlands, swamps and other natural areas. We've replaced and continue to replace green space with gray infrastructure (pavement, buildings). So conservation is important because the environment protects us from extreme events. If we don't conserve the environment, we will be SOL.
