It is necessary because the constituents of the mixture are seperately used for different purposes like petroleum is seperated into its constituents as petroleum itself is not useful but its diff. fractions like petrol is useful. Also we can seperate air into oxygen and nitrogen which are very useful to us seperatly like oxygen can be filled in cylindrs and nitrogen can be used as a fertilizer.
