Why it is not adisiable to add water to acid while diluting an acid

because diluting  an acid is a highly exothermic . so when we add water in acid the acid will evolve heat and can splash the acid on your face. but when we add acid to water with continous stirring the concentration of H+ ions get decreased and gets safely diluted
