Why it is required to keep the plants in dark room?

to destarch them so that the starch that is the stored form of their food gets utilised on 3 days this is common in testind the presence of starch using iodine

Hey actually this must not be done ,but the main motive behind it the experiment to test the presence of iodine.in a dark room the the plant's starch is used up and hence that experimentwould confirm the absence of starch in that plant leave....
