Akbar's two children died of diseases very early in their infancy. So Akbar prayed God and took help of muslim saints, priests and sheikhs. Finally when he had a son and was healthy, he named him after a good sheikh called Sheik Salim.  Salim was born to Akbar and his wife Mariam uz Jamani.

Jahangir, was born on 31st August 1569 in Fatehpur Sikri. His full name was Mirza Mir ud din Mohammed Salim.  Jahangir Salim and Anarkali's love story is very famous.

Explanation:

The royal couple was subsequently blessed with a son, whom they named Salim. He was named after a Sufi saint, Salim Chishti, who had earlier blessed Akbar. As a young prince, Jahangir had rebelled against his father for various reasons, including the throne.
