why john hallock called the assembly of women manipulators? please explain in brief

Manupulators refers to the people who control things.., as John returns back from work he is dragged by hus wife to play the Quija board.He was forced to be Laura's partner. As they began playing the Quija board drew Laura's attention by mentioning about John. So did the other players. Since the other women present there are also controlling/playing with the board John calls them manipulators.
