kerosene doesnot not decolourise bromine water while cooking oil does cuz cooking oil are unsaturated while kerosene are saturated carbon compound.unstaturated carbon chains are capable of decolourising bromine water while saturated carbon chain cannot decolourise bromine water.

The decolourisation process of the normal aqueous solution of the bromine water,is heavily dependent on the various chemical properties of the unsaturated fat molecules.
But normal kerosene doesn't contain any unsaturated fat molecules.
That's why kerosene is unable to decolourise the bromine water.
On the other hand,
Cooking oil or the edible oils are completely made out of unsaturated fat molecules, that's why they easily decolourise the normal bromine water.
