The Khilafat movement failed because the British-Indian government suppressed the movement by arresting,trying and imprisoning most of its members since they had shown to threaten the government.

The khilafat movements failed to become a national issue because only muslins stays in the movement and most of the Hindus stayed uninvolved in this movement.
The incident caused by Chauri Chaura became one of the reasons behind the failure of this movement.
Main Congress leaders were imprisoned during this time and that is why Congress could not take an active part in this movement.
