Surrounded by the greens of the Western Ghats, the Arabian Sea and the Kali river is a quaint city called Karwar. Located in Karnataka, almost at the state’s border with Goa, the main attraction of this city is a beautiful stretch of beach named after Noble laureate Rabindranath Tagore. He stayed with his uncle Devendranath Tagore, who was posted here as the district collector. It is said that Tagore was so impressed by the beauty of Karwar beach and surrounding areas that he called it the Kashmir of Karnataka. There is a bust of young Tagore in the central area of the city.
