Why lakes and rivers do not freeze suddenly in winters

they do not freeze becoz they have salt in it i.e NaCl in it so salt lowers the temperature of water by approx 2 degree celsius so as we know normal water freezes at 0 degrees celcius so the water in lake so rivers usually do not freeze
