During ancient period when one group traded with another or if foreign rulers came to new places to conquer land they had have a method of communication between them and the people they rule so they started speaking their language soon they were fluent yet some words of their mother tounge was adopted by the people as well hence transfer of language began

The Same occurred with merchants as well to sell things they needed communication hence transfer of language and when they went back to their homeland people there saw that some words were easier in the other language hence they also learnt those few easy words of that language again transfer of languages.
