why large value of capacitance is used in wave rectifier

So the rectified input waveform is transformed into a DC voltage with some load induced ripple. The amount of ripple is dependent of the input frequency, the amount of capacitance and the amount of current drawn by the load. With larger values of C the output voltage sags less and you have lower ripple.
