Because latent means hidden and the heat produced to change state in fusion is hidden we can't see them so it is called latent heat of fusion.

latent heat of fusion is called the latent heat because latent means hidden . it is called latent as heat is require to overcome the forces of attraction between the solid and converted into liquid ,but the temperature doesn't increase that 's why it is called latent heat.
