Let us consider that the plane is made up of a plane mirror. So lateral inversion occurs at every single point. For lateral inversion to take place the object can be kept both perpendicular and parallel to the normal vector of the plane. Also every 2D object gets laterally inverted. To check this take a square sheet , colour its edges( any 2 ) with different colors , then place the sheet perpendicular and parallel to the normal vector of the plane composed of the mirror and see the inversion.I also suggest everyone to think on it after reading the answer as I might be completely wrong as everyone has a different perspective.
