Why laterite soil is found in summits of eastern and western ghats ?

Laterite soil is unsuitable for cultivationof crops because it is acidic in nature and it is unable to retain moisture. Therefore this soil is mainly found in summits of Eastern and Western Ghats.

That's because laterite soil is formed under the conditions of high temperature and heavy rainfall .Western parts of western ghats receives heavy rainfall by south west monsoon, it receives sunlight as it is near the equator.These above conditions prevails it to be in the western parts of western ghats....
